Plan to Beat the Heat! Racing this Sunday July 28th

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

We are modifying the schedule in order to be done before the afternoon heat takes hold on Sunday.  So here is the updated plan:

Shasta AutoX Challenge Series #7 Sunday, July 28th 2019
09:00am – 09:15am Driver’s Meeting
09:15am – 10:45am Run Group 1
11:00am – 12:30pm Run Group 212:30pm – 01:30pm Lunch Break + Mini-run group for late arrivals (if needed) + Fun Runs
01:30pm – 02:00pm Clean Up

This is our best estimate – things may change based on how many entries we have.  If you planned to register during lunch break and race in the afternoon, you still can, but the majority of folks will have already run.  Do your best to be at the track for the 9am driver’s meeting!

Setup is Saturday @ 6:30pm.  See you at the track!

Please check out https://trinitytouringclub.com/race-results/ and let me know if any corrections are needed!
Saturday’s Class winners at Thunderhill were Blake DeWit for Street, Keith Smith for CAM, David Winterburn for Modified, Jerry Shaha for Touring, and Grayson Hull was our fastest Novice.   Sunday, it was Blake for Street, Keith for CAM, and no other class had at least 3 competitors.

We are half way through the 2019 Season, with 6 races done, and 6 more to go!  The next race is July 28th in Anderson at the Shasta Speedway.  That is a long ways off!  Check out https://trinitytouringclub.com/more-info/ for other area clubs holding events, including the Sacramento SCCA at Thunderhill June 22nd & 23rd, some hill climb events, and if you really want to travel, Packwood is July 12th – 14th.

Our next Club meeting is Tuesday, June 18th at Player’s Pizza in Anderson, and we would love your feedback about the Thunderhill race.  Let us know what you thought of this event, or if you didn’t attend, what kept you away.  Just reply and share your thoughts if you aren’t able to make it to the meeting.

Our autocross race weekend at Thunderhill is this Saturday and Sunday, June 1st and 2nd.  A few of our campers are planning to arrive Friday.  We are doing a little trackside BBQ potluck Saturday early evening, so if you are planning to camp at the track or are coming to the Saturday race, plan to stay for a while and enjoy some awesome BBQ on the Club!  Bring a side dish or dessert (grocery stores / Walmart are minutes away – no reason to prepare something unless you really want to!) and your favorite beverage.

It should be a fun weekend and I hope you can make it!

Remember:

  • Register by Noon
  • Bring Cash
  • Bring Chairs
  • Bring Shade
  • Be Safe, Go Fast, Have Fun!

Shasta AutoX Challenge Series 5 & 6 – Thunderhill June 1st & 2nd

We are very excited to be partnering with the North Bay Corvette Association for our Club’s first official autocross event on the 7 acre Large Skid Pad at Thunderhill Raceway Park!  North Bay Corvettes will be managing the event and taking your money.  Registration is $35 each day for TTC members, $45 for non-members.  This is a points race weekend for TTC – you will only be scored against your fellow TTC competitors for season points.  You will be competing against others at the event for the ‘Fun Car Class’ (basically everything that isn’t a Corvette) and Fastest Car of the Day bragging rights.  We will have Fast Time, Top PAX, and Class winners for our participants as we do for all of our events.

Based on our sign up sheet from the last event, we have about 18 racers who plan to make the trip down, and half a dozen plan to camp overnight.  I’m hoping folks who didn’t make it out last weekend are planning to join us at Thunderhill and pump those numbers up!  If you didn’t sign up but plan to go, no worries, we will see you there!  We are talking about doing a little BBQ or something trackside Saturday night for those who make the trip – more to come on that.

Hope to see you there!

Race Results – Shasta AutoX Challenge Series 3 & 4

We had some wet weather this weekend that kept some competitors away, but we still managed to fill up a couple of run groups each morning for points racing, and then opened up the track for fun runs in the afternoon.  Safe to say even though we got a little wet, it was great to have the time to do fun runs and trade rides.

Saturday morning’s competition laps were dry, with David Winterburn winning Fast Time and Blake DeWit taking PAX.  We need a minimum of 3 cars in each PAX group to declare a Class winner, so Saturday that was Blake for Street, Eric Haney for Touring, and Shawn McNeely for Modified.

Sunday’s weather was the inverse, with morning competition laps in the wet, and afternoon fun runs on a dry track.  Blake managed the fastest time of the day in his E Street Miata, and I managed to squeak out a PAX win in the SVT Focus.  Class winners were Brian Berry for Street, Andrew Skemp for Touring, and Jordan Enloe for CAM.

Complete event and season to date results are posted at https://trinitytouringclub.com/race-results/

Our next Club meeting is Tuesday May 21st @ Players Pizza in Anderson, social hour 6pm – 7pm, with meeting following.  We’ll be finalizing our plans for our next points race at Thunder Hill June 1st and 2nd – I’ll send out some additional info after the meeting.   Hope to see you there!

The Trinity Touring Club is hosting two days of autocross racing this weekend, May 18th & 19th.  The Shasta AutoX Challenge Series events are rain or shine, and this weekend is threatening rain, so be prepared for wet and wild!  If you got a look at our January photos, you know we take racing in the rain seriously!  Campers are welcome to stay at the track this weekend.

Setup is Friday at 6pm in the pit area of the Shasta Speedway.  We welcome anyone who can make it out to help!  The more people, the quicker it all gets done.  Jeremy McNeely is our Race Director for the weekend.

Saturday and Sunday, gates open at 7:30am for registration, with driver’s meeting at 9am.  Race entry fee is $30 for members / $35 for guests for each day, and you can pay using your favorite credit card.  Club t-shirts are included with your membership or can be purchased for $15, and we have helmet rentals available if you do not have your own.  Novice racers are welcome!

We’ll have the hot dog crew serving lunch, and a sign-up sheet for our next event at Thunderhill coming up June 1st & 2nd.  Our next club meeting follows on Tuesday, May 21st.

See you at the track this weekend!

Shasta AutoX Challenge Series – Results for #1 & #2

The first race weekend of 2019 was blessed with great weather, a fantastic group of racers, and some very dedicated Trinity Touring Club volunteers who made sure everything ran smoothly.  We had all new timing equipment on the tarmac thanks to our Club President Troy Dewell.  Vice President Sharon Haley made sure the 2019 T-shirts (with design by Board Member Gary Brantley), postcards, plaques, and trophies were ready to go.  Randy and Barbra Phelps setup our BBQ and made sure we were well fed.

It takes a lot of effort by a relatively small number folks to pull off a successful race weekend, and a lot went into this season kick-off.  Thanks to everyone who helped out and contributed.

It was a sweep for Top TIme of Day and Top PAX by David Winterburn and Blake Dewit, respectively.  Blake also took home the class win for Street in his ES Miata.  Saturday’s Modified class was a close one, with Jeremy McNeely taking the top spot in his turbo charged SSM Miata.  In CAM, Arley Enloe was the top finisher with an amazing 54.480 run in his Hellcat.  Other winners included Jerry Shaha in Touring in a STR Miata, and Ryan Thomas in Novice driving a wicked V8 powered 280Z.

Sunday saw Mark Talkington take the Touring class win in his STS Miata, with Uriah Siner and Eric Haney in tie for second, each posting a best time of 55.196.  In Prepared, it was Andrew Barbitta in his WRX STI.  Danny Ide got the top spot in Modified in his EM Willys, Keith Smith scored the CAM win, and Sam Wiseman drove a Mustang GT to the top of the Novice results.

All the race weekend results and member season points to date are posted at https://trinitytouringclub.com/race-results/  – please let me know if you see any issues with the results.

The next event is coming up in just a few weeks on Saturday and Sunday May 18th and 19th – please plan to join us for a fun weekend of autocross racing!
