TTC Weekend at the Shasta Kart Klub

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

We had a spectacular weekend of racing at the Shasta Kart Klub facility south of the Redding Dragstrip.  We hosted 63 racers and turned 551 laps around the course over the two days, with Saturday practice going clockwise, and Sunday points race counterclockwise.  We learned a lot about how to put on an event at this venue and received overwhelmingly positive feedback from our members and guests, as well as from the kart club leadership about how the event was conducted.  Our thanks to everyone who came out to support us, especially the new people we met (we hope you’ll be back!} and the old friends we hadn’t seen in a while.

Saturday was a practice day that saw Rick Dunbar on top of the speed charts in the Factory Five 818 roadster with David Winterburn  in the DRS Sports Racer close behind.  Sunday, Boris Podtetenieff in his Tesla Model S Plaidtook the Top Time by a scant 0.012 over David.  Robert Foster scored PAX for Saturday practice and for the main event Sunday in his wicked fast Corvette Grand Sport.  Mason Mercier was our fastest Novice for Saturday in a Miata, and Mason Boozer was our fastest Novice Sunday in a Toyota MR2.

Our next event kicks off our fall fundraiser and will be at the Shasta Speedway September 23rd and 24th and registration will be open soon.  Raffle tickets will be available online as part of race registration and will be available at the September and October events.  We are currently seeking raffle donations for automotive themed items and local services – if you can help please read more here https://trinitytouringclub.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/TTC-2023-Fundraiser-08292023.pdf and let us know what you can donate.

The Trinity Touring Club is partnering with the Shasta Kart Klub to host autocross racing at the 1.3 mile Redding Kart Track Saturday and Sunday August 26th & 27th.  Saturday is a play day for test and tune so we can learn what works well at the facility and get some seat time without the pressure of a points race.  Bring a picnic lunch and hang out with us for a day where every run is a fun run!  Sunday is points race #10 for the Shasta AutoX Challenge Series for club members and guests are also welcome to participate.

Early start both days to beat the August heat!  We’ll have the full daily schedule and details for accessing the facility after our monthly club meeting next week.  Helmet rentals only $5 / day, club t-shirts on sale for $10. Come out and try a new venue with us!

July Results and New Race Venue for August 26th – 27th

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

We had a solid turnout for our July event and managed to get everyone out for 5 runs on a really fun track and were still home before 2pm.  Boris and David Winterburn were the exclusive members of the 49 second club, with Boris managing to hold off all competitors to score a clean sweep for Top Time and PAX in the Tesla Model S Plaid.  We saw the debut of Troy Dewell’s supercharged XP Miata which had a successful shakedown after a bit of an overboost issue, and our fastest Novice was Ralph Stein in a Focus ST.  Thanks to everyone for making it out!

For our August event, we are partnering with the Shasta Kart Klub to race on the 1.3 mile kart track at the south end of the Redding Drag Strip.  The 26 acre facility features lots of shade, a paved and covered staging area, multiple seating areas, and a control tower to monitor all the action.  The course itself has up to 11 turns for the longest configuration and a very fast straightaway.  We’ll be using cones to create the autocross track layout and to keep competitors away from any hazards.

Saturday is a play day for test and tune so we can learn what works well at the facility and get some seat time on the new track without the pressure of a points race.  Bring a picnic lunch and hang out with us for the day!   Sunday is points race #10 for the Shasta AutoX Challenge Series.  Early start both days to beat the August heat!  Dry camping is available!

June Results

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Here are the results from last weekend’s event at Thunderhill with the North Bay Corvette Club.

Saturday was hot, the track was greasy, but the times were fast, with Boris Podtetenieff taking fastest time of the event in the Tesla Model S Plaid.  Sunday we had cooler temps and only raced in the morning, but still the tires were giving out on the Tesla, leaving the door open for Jeremy McNeely to annihilate the field in his SSM Miata.  Blade DeWit held off all challengers to score the PAX win both days, Sunday by a razor thin 0.035 margin.  Our fastest Novices were Daniel Klatt on Saturday and John Robustellini on Sunday, both in Corvettes.

It is always a great time at Thunderhill!  If you missed it this time, we are heading back in October, and we hope you can make it.  Our next event is on Sunday, July 23rd at the Shasta Speedway – registration will open soon.

May Results

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Thank-you to everyone who made it out to race with us for our May event at the Shasta Speedway!  We had some fast times at the track, with David Winterburn making a clean sweep for Top Time in the BMod JBS Sports Racer despite losing an axle seal.  Rick Dunbar also gave an impressive performance Saturday, taking his SSM Miata into the 44 second zone and into second place.  PAX was all Boris Podtetenieff in the Tesla Model S Plaid for Saturday, but Sunday he left the door open for Brian in the Ecoboost HPP to score the PAX win by 0.46.  Our fastest Novice on Saturday was Bryce Gordon in a Miata, and we all got a kick out of watching the Waechter brothers go head to head for Kids Kart supremacy, with Jimmy taking the top spot Saturday and Elijah bringing it home first on Sunday.  Great job guys!

It wasn’t all sunshine and roses, as we did have some broken cars shorten a few people’s race weekend – we hope the repairs are expedient and that we’ll see you back on the track soon.
