Shasta AutoX Challenge Series #2 Results

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

We had another great turn out for our second points race of the 2017 season – a huge thanks to everyone who helped with track setup and worked throughout the day to keep the event moving smoothly.  The weather was typical Redding late May – nice morning, hot afternoon – and the track was a quick one lapper with some challenging corners and fast straights.

Complete results are posted on the Results page. We appreciate everyone who came out to race with us and hope you will join us again next month.

The next race is our “June Jam” June 3rd and 4th.  Each day is a points race counting towards our 9 race season. We will have our BBQ Potluck on Saturday June 3rd after 6pm at the track and everyone is welcome – bring a side dish, appetizer, or dessert and a chair! The club will be providing the BBQ and non-alcoholic beverages. It should be an awesome two days of racing, so please come out and race with us, and enjoy an evening hosted by our club.

I hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend and look forward to seeing you at the track in less than two weeks!

2017 Shasta AutoX Challenge Series Race #2 This Sunday, May 21st

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Greetings racers and race fans!  Please join us for our second points race of the 2017 “Shasta AutoX Challenge Series” on Sunday, May 21st.  Setup is Saturday at 7pm – please come out to the track and help us get everything ready for the race.  Ray Dibble is our Race Director and will bring us maps for setup.  This is race #2 of a 9 race series!  Everyone is welcome – come race with us!

Gates open at 7:30am on Sunday with driver’s meeting at 9am.  Entry fee is $30 for members and $35 for non-members.  If you have not autocrossed with us this year, please arrive early enough to complete your registration / tech sheet and have your car and helmet inspected.  If you are a member and didn’t get your t-shirt last month, we will have them at the track, or if you have yet to join the club, a $30 individual membership gets you $5 off the race entry fee AND a sweet t-shirt.
Downtown Dogs will be serving lunch – please support our vendor by bringing your appetite and a little extra cash!  The club will have cold water and shade on hand to beat the heat.

Updates from 05.16.2017 TTC Club Meeting
1.  Helmets:  Our current requirement is 2005 or better MA or SA rated helmets.  We will be culling the helmet barrel to ensure our loaners comply, which could mean we have fewer loaners.  If you don’t mind lending your helmet for someone’s run, please offer – someone may need it on Sunday. I have a 2010 MA helmet and anyone with a fat enough head is welcome to use it.
2.  Setup and Breakdown:  We always appreciate help with track setup and breakdown – it goes faster the more people help.  Not everyone can be there for setup or stay to the end of the event, but consider how you could arrange your schedule to help us out for our events this year.
3.  Drivers Meeting:  We want to make sure all of our participants know the rules, so we’ll be taking some time to review them for the 9am driver’s meeting, and again for anyone who registers later in the day.  We are working on updating a hand-out for the registration table and website as well.
4.  Start Time:  The hotter it gets, the better off we are starting on time.  Darin, Jim E., and Gary B. will be on hand to tech cars Sunday morning.  Help us move things along by getting your cars staged on the oval track once tech’d and lining up immediately on the pit lane when your run group is called.
5.  “June Jam” Saturday and Sunday June 3rd & 4th:  We will be doing some planning for our next two races while everyone is together at the track as it is just two weeks until our next event.  We need a Race Director to take on the challenge of the reversible course!  Let us know if you’d like to volunteer.  We will have our BBQ Potluck on Saturday June 3rd after 6pm and everyone is welcome – bring a side dish, appetizer, or dessert and a chair!  The club will be providing the BBQ and non-alcoholic beverages.  It should be an awesome two days of racing!
Please reach out with any questions, and I hope to see you at the track!

2017 Shasta AutoX Challenge Series starts April 9th!

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Please join us for the first points race of the 2017 “Shasta AutoX Challenge Series” on Sunday, April 9th.  Setup is Saturday at 5pm – please come out to the track and help us get everything ready for the race.  Chase Warner is our Race Director and will bring us maps for setup.  Danny Ide will bring the tow vehicle.  Ray Dibble will be acting Secretary for the event.

Gates open at 7:30am on Sunday with driver’s meeting at 9am.  Entry fee is $30 for members and $35 for non-members.  If you have not autocrossed with us in pre-season this year, please arrive early enough to complete your registration / tech sheet and have your car and helmet inspected.  We also hope to have our club t-shirts ready at this event.
Updates from 03.21.2017 TTC Club Meeting!

1.  Timing / Scoring:  No rounding – all times will be recorded in thousandths (0.000)
2.  Timing / Scoring:  Times called out from the timing trailer will be the adjusted time including penalties.  Example: a time of “51.50 plus 1” is a 50.50 raw time with a 1 second penalty.  Adjusted time and penalty notation will be recorded on the timing board.
3.  Novice Class:  After two events, a competitor is no longer eligible for novice class and must race in their car class.
4.  Class Race Day Trophy:  To be eligible for a race day trophy based on the best PAX time for your car class (Street, Street Touring, Street Prepared, and Modified), there must be 3 competitors in the combined PAX class.
5.  Car Identification:    The club would like competitors to display SCCA compliant door numbers.  These are 8″ numbers with 4″ car class – specifications are in section 3.7 of the SCCA solo rule book.   Chase Warner is working on a design that will incorporate the club’s logo – please reach out to him if you’d like a number design created for your car.  The cost to get them made is around $45 / set – Chase has a source, and we have a club sponsor who can help – contact Cat or Halli of “Tach’d Up Vinyl”.  Competitors may continue to use tape or large, clearly written window marker to identify their car number and class.
6.  Flagging / Communication:  We would like to improve communication between the workstations, the flagger, and timing.  The center workstation will be responsible for getting the cone count from all workstations and communicating with the flagger, who will will then update timing.  Will have some new walkie-talkies to try to make this work better than our typical method of shouting.
7.  Race Series Name:  We have a new name for our racing series – “Shasta AutoX Challenge Series.”  This name is on our published Schedule, on Where2Race, on our upcoming local event listings, and will be printed on our t-shrts and race schedule banners.
Please reach out with any questions!

TTC at the SSCC Spring Enduro in Medford

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Some of our members braved the weather and made the trip up to Medford for the Siskiyou Sport Car Club’s 14th Annual Spring Enduro last weekend. It was dry for Friday and Saturday practices, but wet for Sunday’s race. The first and last run groups got the worst of it, while groups in between had a damp but drying course. Results are posted on the Siskiyou Sports Car Club website with Danny Ide taking home the trophy for EM, Blake DeWit for FM, and Brian Berry for HS. Jeff McCollough finished 2nd in HS out of a field of 5 entries in his very first autocross race – amazing job and he had a blast. David Winterburn went out in the last run group in the worst conditions of the day, finishing 3rd in BM, however no one came close to his 2015 record for the event. Bo Jensen had to abandon his race run as a tire problem sidelined the 9 car for a while.

Check out some pictures from the weekend in our Gallery, and be sure to visit the SSCC website for upcoming race dates and information.

Pre-Season Race #3 – Results

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Our final pre-season race is in the books and results are posted on the Results page.  Despite Jerry Shaha’s multiple rain dances, we raced in the dry on a very fast course!  One note on the results – we had some folks who classed as Novice on the board but were timed under their car class.  When we build the membership file for the season starting next race, we will be using the car class on your tech sheet.  Only classed entries are eligible for season points!

Our next meeting is this Tuesday, March 21st at Angelos Pizza in Redding – meeting starts at 7pm.

Our first points race is right around the corner on Sunday, April 9th.  See you at the track!

Pre-season race #3 this Sunday March 19th

Our next club meeting is the Tuesday following the race, where we will plan for our season opener in April.
