Pre-season Autocross this Weekend!

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Pre-season autocross #2 is this weekend, Sunday, February 23rd.  We had a great group for the first pre-season race in January (some pics on Facebook), and that one was kinda wet.  We are expecting mostly clear and warm weather this weekend, so we hope to see more of you out to join us for some autocross fun!

The club will be serving up fresh donuts and hot coffee Sunday morning, and depending on attendance, we may offer free fun runs in the afternoon to anyone who paid/registered for the event.  We would like to fill up 4 run groups, so as always, it is first come, first registered, if you can stay with us for the afternoon, we’d appreciate you registering for the later groups.  This will help ensure we have rental helmets available for everyone who would like to race or ride.

Saturday 02.22.2020– Gates open at 4:00pm Saturday afternoon for track setup – please come by and help us out with setup if you can!  The more folks, the quicker it goes!  We punted the annual trailer clean up to March.
– Jeremy McNeely is our Competition Director again this year and will be our track setup guide

Sunday 02.23.2020– Gates open at 7:30am for registration and tech inspection- Driver’s Meeting at 9am under the cover, followed by run groups 1 & 2- Lunch break – we are on our own for lunch
– Driver’s Meeting for late registrants, followed by run groups 3 & 4

Entry fee is $30 for members and $35 for non-members – electronic payments accepted.  Becoming a member is as easy as completing the membership application portion of the Tech Sheet and paying for an Individual ($30), Family ($35), or Business ($200, $400, or $600) membership.  This is a great time of the year to join the club as you will get $5 off the entry fee for all Shasta Speedway autocross races – make it to half of those, and your membership pays for itself!  Plus you get a rad t-shirt at the beginning of our regular season in April, can compete for season trophies, and get the opportunity to help run our events.  Join the club!

Other Info:

1.  Helmets:  Helmets are available to rent for just $1 (and we will hang onto your driver’s license until it is returned).  If you bring your own, it must be SA/MA 2005 or better (this is the last year for 2005 rated helmets).2.  2020 SCCA Classes and Rules:  Changes are in the works – checkout the 2020 draft at https://www.scca.com/downloads/49002-2020-solo-rules-book-2-draft-b-2020-02-14/download We will have a hard copy of this once it is finalized – for now, it is only available online as a download.

3. March Pre-Season Race:  We are looking to move the March race up one week from 03.22 to 03.15 so we don’t conflict with SSCC Medford’s Spring Enduro, which is happening March 20th – 22nd.

4. Tentative Season Schedule:  We are submitting our schedule to the Fairgrounds and hope to hear back soon.  The official dates will be posted to https://trinitytouringclub.com/race-schedule/  when finalized, but here are the proposed dates that take into account events already booked at the Fairgrounds.  Note the Thunderhill events are CONFIRMED dates:

  • April 25th & 26th
  • May 9th & 10th
  • June 6th & 7th – Thunderhill w/ the Northbay Corvette Association
  • July 12th
  • Aug 9th
  • Sept 12th & 13th
  • Oct 3rd & 4th – Thunderhill w/ the Northbay Corvette Association
  • Oct 17th & 18th

I hope to see you at the track this weekend!

Pre-Season Race #1 Results

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Sunday brought us a break from the rain, but a mostly wet track for our first pre-season event of 2020.  We had a good turn out with 26 racers and A LOT of spectators (nearly 80 folks signed our waiver!).  The day went off without much drama, other than running through our rental helmets pretty quickly which required some staging lane shenanigans to make sure everyone who needed a helmet had one on their head by the time they got to the starting grid.  It was great to see so many new people and I hope that we’ll see you again at our next event.

Results are published at https://trinitytouringclub.com/race-results/
Post race, there was a good natured protest of the PAX results, and it was determined that the announced winner was actually not in the right car class due to equipment, so the Top Time of Day and PAX win both officially go to Andrew Barbitta in his totally hooked up Subaru WRX.  Other class winners included Richard Dunbar in Street, Troy Dewell in Touring in a STS Miata, Shawn McNeely for Modified in his turbo Miata, and our fastest novice (and 3rd overall) was Michael Williams in a fairly wicked WRX STI.  Of course, pre-season is just bragging rights – no points are tallied until we start our regular season in April.  Remember that if you have made changes to your car since you last raced, be sure to see if you need to move to a new class.

Our next pre-season race is coming up on Sunday, February 23rd, and we hope to see you there!

Updates for 2020

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

We are just about a month away from our first pre-season event at the Shasta Speedway, scheduled for Sunday January 26th!  There are 3 pre-season dates on the calendar, and we’ll take one of those (when the weather is cooperating) to do a clean-up of the timing trailer and patch up the cone trailer.  The “Shasta AutoX Challenge Series” for 2020 will begin in April, and we are planning to partner with the Northbay Corvette Association for events at Thunderhill as part of our regular season again this year.  The full schedule will be coming together over the next couple of months and will include single day and weekend events.  Stay tuned for updates!

For people with a helmet of 2005 vintage, 2020 is the last year they are allowed – check to see if your helmet is legal by downloading the latest SCCA certification sheet here.  The 2020 PAX index is updated and linked from our More Info page – check to see if your Class has been updated!

The Club board met on Tuesday and reviewed our financial results for the year, and are happy to announce there are no fee changes for 2020 – membership remains $30 for individuals, $35 for a family membership, and race entry fees are $30 for members and $35 for non-member guests.  The updated Sponsor sheet is attached to this email for those wishing to renew or start a club sponsorship.   We thank all of our 2019 sponsors for their participation, and hope everyone returns for another year.  For our club members and supporters, you can help support the Club by bringing your family & friends to our events, and racing with us!

Wishing you all the best for the Holidays, and looking forward to seeing you at the track in 2020.
